Elegance in Entertainment- Ganeshotsav
A Performance by Ragasudha Vinjamuri
Keeping its 74 year
old illustrious history and tradition of organizing programs every year
on music, drama and Deepavali dinners that strongly reflect the
tradition and culture, Maharashtra Mandal London has celebrated
Ganeshotsav that concluded with Visarjan on 6 September. As a part of
the 10 day Ganesh Chaturthi festival which totally drew close to 2000
people, INDRADHANUSHYA -an evening of dance and music was conducted on 2
September 2006 at Maharashtra Bhavan during which Ragasudha Vinjamuri
presented Bharatanatyam.
The audience has
thoroughly enjoyed the show which included compositions on Ganesha,
Shiva and Parvati. In reverence to Lord Ganesha, Sudha presented Maha
Ganesha Pancharatna Stotra by Adi Shankaracharya. As resplendent as
rising sun, Ganesha is described as the God of education, prudence and
success, eternal and kind, worshipped by both demons and gods. Invoked
at the start of anything auspicious, he removes evils and obstacles, and
bestows us with health, happiness, long life and progeny. One of Sudha’s
lovely postures in this composition was Ganesha inscribing the
Mahabharatha with his broken tusk used as a pen.
The Lingashtakam
that Sudha presented in tasteful style was quite uplifting. Every
interlude “Tat pranamaami Sadaasiva Lingam” had a splendid pose of Lord
Shiva. The viewers joyfully watched her excellent expressions. Shiva
with swirling locks of hair dances with the drum and fire in his hands
to signify creation and destruction respectively. His dreadlocks are
decked with crescent moon and are interspersed with the sacred river
Ganges. All these Lord’s attributes were gracefully offered in her dance
Om Shambho.
The presentation
stood out as a brilliant regalement among all the programs of the
evening. A memento was presented to her in the presence of the president
of Maharashtra Mandal London, Viju Kale.
