Lalitha Koti Parayana Project in New Jersey & New York
- Sita Garikipati
The whole context of doing the Lalitha Parayana started about 6 years ago when one of my friend’s (Rama Kambhampaty) mother, Smt.Sita Pisipati garu was visiting her from India and introduced us to the Lalitha Parayana.
We then initiated it and since then Rama has been conducting the parayana every week at her place regardless of how many people showed up. She lives in Long Isalnd which is a little far away (about 30 miles) from Queens where I live. The ladies in Queens then got inspired and started a separate group in the Queens area initiated by Smt. Neeraja ( just for the sake of convenience with respect to distance) to do similar Parayanas in Queens as well.
During the Dasara festival time, both these groups individually/together do it all the nine days of ‘Devi Navarathrulu’ with specific color dress code for each goddess of significance in those nine days, like Parrot Green, Orange, Yellow, Sky Blue, Pink, Grey, Green, Ink blue and Royal blue. On the tenth day or on Vijaya Dashami day, the Red color.
While this was going on, it was mentioned to us that the Lalitha Koti Parayana should be one’s lifetime goal for the sake of world peace, as well as for one’s own well being. That’s when we determined to conduct these monthly Lalitha Parayanas towards the Lalitha Koti Parayana project (LaKoPa) that was started an year ago and I took the responsibility to accomplish the goal of this project. This might take another 3 years for us to achieve this but may also complete before that depending on devotees turn over.
We do this parayana four times, each time. We meet twice a month at Asamai temple in Flushing, NY. This location is in Queens area which is about 30 miles (max) to Long Island people. The parayanas are followed by aarathi and food prasadam that devotees bring in. Each session of these parayanas start at 11:30 AM and complete by 1:30PM.
People have been very keen and motivated to do these parayanas and the interesting part is that the men have also been participating in these parayanas, whenever convenient to them.
I am sure that people in India have also been doing such parayanas and this project is not that big of a surprise to them since they are aware of all the spiritual activities that take place here in US , that are almost equivalent in procedure to the ones being conducted in India.
